Stonehouse Male Voice Choir was formed in 1936, in a local builder's yard, when two or three joiners began singing during their lunch break.
With the exception of the war years the Choir has gone from strength to strength and is now over 50 strong.
The Choir's repertoire is wide and varied ranging from classical, church music, music from the shows and light popular music. Gordon Millar, our Director of Music, tries to cater for all tastes.
We rehearse from 7:30pm to 9:30pm every Tuesday night in the Paterson UF church hall, Stonehouse, from September through to the end of March or the beginning of April, with breaks for Christmas etc. The practice nights offer great comradeship, hard work and fun.
The choir mainly performs at fund raising events for charities, churches, Guilds and clubs etc. throughout the Central belt of Scotland and we normally give about five or six concerts per season. In addition, we hold our own annual concert in the Paterson Church, usually held around the third week in March for two nights, which is the Thursday and Friday of that week. We also regularly take part in the annual Festival of Male Voice Choirs concert in Hamilton in March and the Christian Aid Concert held in St. Ninian's at Christmas.
